Updated: Apr 02, 2025

At the Beijing International Youth Innovation and Development Forum, Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and UNESCO Representative, expressed his enthusiasm for China's release of the open-source model DeepSeek. Without hesitation, he installed it the moment it became available. To his joy, his son, an AI entrepreneur in Australia, was equally impressed.

Prof. Khan saw open-source artificial intelligence (AI) as a powerful tool that empowers young innovators globally to engage with cutting-edge technology and shape the future. He commended China for showcasing openness and responsibility in the field of AI.

Rather than approaching AI's impact on employment with apprehension, Prof. Khan viewed it as a significant opportunity for tech-savvy youth. He emphasized the pivotal role of digital literacy and access to learning tools, believing that these components will empower the upcoming generation to enhance their lives and evolve into future innovators.
